Obituary - JoAnn Sue Stanislaus Wilkinson

JoAnn Sue (Stanislaus) Wilkinson, 84-year-old lifetime Vinita resident passed away early on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at her home. She was born on the same family farm, where she passed away, on November 5, 1935 on the east side of Vinita to Ovel and Ina Aurelia (Smith) Stanislaus.

JoAnn was a 1953 graduate of Vinita High School; she was the 1952 football homecoming queen. She was a member of the Tenderfoot Club and a very avid horsewoman; she ran for the Will Rogers Rodeo Queen during her younger years. In May of 1953 she married the father of her children, Henry Abraham “Sonny” Chase. Later she married the love of her life, George Bihl Wilkinson in July of 1980. They loved going to the ranch in Texas, hunting the Bowie Silver treasure and going dancing.

JoAnn was a charter member of the ESA Alpha Sigma Chapter of Vinita and a former Chapter Sweetheart. She was a big fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys and. JoAnn helped start the Vinita Stingers Club and loved to watch her son play football for Vinita Hornets and Central Missouri Mules. She also was a former member of the Hash-n-Break Square Dance Club, and the Jayceette’s. JoAnn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vinita. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and being with her family.

JoAnn worked for the Stanislaus Company, D & M Clothiers, Chase Heat and Air, Craig General Hospital, and lastly for Doctors Dehart and Allensworth as a medical transcriptionist.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband’s Sonny Chase and George Bihl Wilkinson; her daughter Malia Jean Chase; son in-law, Robert Lewis Kemp, Jr.; brothers, Oscar Doyle Stanislaus, Arthur Dale Stanislaus; sisters, Vivian June Waller and Lila Joy Stanislaus-Sparks.

The family includes; her children, Jay Robert Chase and wife Bobbie of Springfield, MO, Robin Ann Kemp of Vinita; her sister, Linda Jane Clanton of Vinita; step-children, Georganne Erickson and significant other, Mike Delaney of Scottsdale, AZ, Richard Bihl Wilkinson and wife Jan of Norman; grandchildren, Steven Ovel Chase and wife Leslye of Claremore, Sunny Jo Abbott and husband Kevin of Claremore, Seaman Shae Charles-George Erickson of the U.S. Coast Guard currently stationed in Bahrain, Malia Jay Kemp-Lawson of Vinita; step-grandchildren, Jordan, Jill Osburn and husband Dustin of Afton, Dale Evans and wife Brooke of Afton; great-grandchildren, Dylan Bryce Derosia, Emma Grace Chase, Alyssa Faith Chase, Kohl Hudson Abbott and Hunter Allen Lawson.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2020 at the Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral Home in Vinita.

The graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita, with Pastor Henry “Skip” McClain officiating.
