Notes

Note 1

Daniel Robert Gibbons, the son of Frederick Curtis and Adelaide Helen (Harms) Gibbons, was born in Huron, SD on December 11, 1958. Dan spent his youth moving to various communities in North and South Dakota where his father was employed teaching. Later the family settled in the Melvin and Sanborn area where Dan received his education, graduating from Sanborn High School in 1978.

He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Norton on June 25, 1983 at the Melvin United Methodist Church in Melvin, IA. The couple was blessed with three children: Marc, Jenny and Alyssa. Following their marriage they lived in Sibley for two years, Arlington, TX for four and a half years. They returned to Iowa in 1990 and lived in Melvin for one year before moving to an acreage north of Sanborn in 1991. Dan worked as a carpenter all his adult life and started his own business, Gibbons Contracting, in 1991. Following a construction accident on November 12, 2008 Dan passed away at the Sanford University of South Dakota Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD on December 1, 2008 at the age of 49.

Dan was an avid outdoorsman hunting for deer, pheasant, and Canadian geese; he also enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends. He took an active role in civil war reenactments for a few years. Dan also enjoyed science fiction movies, playing cards, listening to music and dancing. Family was very important to Dan, and he especially valued time spent with his wife and children. He received great satisfaction from his work and the customers that he served. Everyone that knew Dan could count on him for a good joke or prank, but they also knew if something was asked of him that he would be more than willing to help.

He was a member of the Melvin United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees. Dan also belonged to the Onyx Lodge #419 of Sanborn, IA.

Survivors include his wife Mary of Sanborn; their children Marc Gibbons of Sibley, IA, Jenny and Alyssa Gibbons of Sanborn, IA; one brother: Joel (Linda) Gibbons of Sanborn, IA; three sisters: Pat Noethe of Britt, IA, Jan (Ivan) Pennings of Sheldon, IA, Barbara (Ken) Nilles of Sanborn, IA; mother–in-law: Joyce Norton of Sanborn, IA; two sister-in-laws: Kathy (Mike) Wolters of Sanborn, IA and Nyla Norton of Ashton, IA; as well as many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Wendy Wilson and infant sister Linda Kay Wilson; niece Michelle Fitting; great niece Jerica Sullens: father-in-law: David Norton and a brother-in-law: Jack Noethe.
