John was born on 25 OCT 1854 in Missouri, the son of Jacob Nicklaus and Mary "Anna Marie" Schwab.

He died on 21 JAN 1933 in Madison, Jefferson County, IN USA.

His wife was Emma Watlington, who he married on 28 OCT 1886 in Jefferson County, Indiana. Their three known children were Cora May (1888-1976), William Elmer (1890-1984) and Mary Belle (1891-1927).

Note 1

John was my grandmother Gertsie’s 1st cousin 1x removed.

Early childhood: After his father died in Missouri during the war, his mother brought him and his brothers and sister to Indiana. She adopted the 3 oldest out. John was adopted by a Mr. Snider who lived in China, IN where he learned to make baskets out of willows and for years made a living at it. He owned a farm north of Madison near Wirt, IN.

In the 1870 census John was living with his uncle Frederick Schwab, Fred's family and John's grandfather Daniel Schwab in Madison, Indiana.
