James Elbert Tyler, age 84 of Conway, died January 5, 2002 at Conway Regional Medical Center. Born February 11, 1917 in Greenbrier, he was the son of the late Noah A. Tyler and Molly Lindsey Tyler.

He was a graduate of Conway High School and studied bookkeeping and accounting at Arkansas State Teachers College. Mr. Tyler was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Signal Corps in Europe.

He worked as office manager of Conway Motor Sales 20 years, administrator of the Conway Convalescence Center 3 years, and office manager at Banister-Lieblong Clinic 23 years. Mr. Tyler was a long-time member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Conway serving on the church board over 50 years. He also held offices of church treasurer for 25 years, north Arkansas district treasurer for 15 years, and teacher of an adult bible class until becoming ill.

He also served on the board of trustees of Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma. He served as treasurer and president of the Conway Civitan Club.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Langford Tyler of Conway; a son, Dr. Larry Tyler of Oxford, Mississippi; a daughter, Jan Martin of Bethany, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mildred Bailey and Bertha Bell of Conway; and a brother, John Thurman Tyler of Conway; five grandchildren, Joyce Gibbs of Battlefield, Missouri, Lindsey Estes of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and Tyler, Loren, and Logan Martin of Bethany, Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren, Luke and Josh Gibbs of Battlefield, Missouri and Olivia Estes of Olive Branch, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Cobb of Madera, California, Georgia Langford of Conway; and a brother, Edgar Tyler of Conway.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2002 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Conway, with The Rev. Tim Kellerman and the Rev. George Andrews officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 till 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Bell, Dalton Langford, Mike Morris, Don Robinson, Bob Tyler, Dr. Tom Tyler, and Stanley Woodard.
