Personal and Family Information

Richard was born in JAN 1810 in NC, the son of Leonard Graves Sr but his mother is unknown.

He died after 1880. The place is not known.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Agnes Graves, who he married in 23 NOV 1833. The place has not been found. Their four known children were Randolph (1836-1921), Noah (1838-?), Hillery (1848-?) and Elkanah (1849-1920).

His second wife was Sarah A Bryant, who he married in 4 OCT 1867 in Clay County IN. They had no known children.

Note 1

Richard Graves (38) was born Jan. 1810 in NC, died 10 March (or August) 1876, and was buried in Graves Family Cemetery at Seagrove Plank Rd., near Seagrove, Randolph Co., NC.  According to R‑50, this is where Richard and Nancy’s descendants were buried.  He married Nancy Vuncannon, daughter of Jacob Vuncannon/Voncannon and Sallie Williams, on 8 March 1834 in Randolph Co., NC as listed in the Randolph Co. Marriage Bonds, Book 1, p. 97. 

Richard’s brother-in-law, Charles Boling, was listed as the Bondsman, and Hugh McCain as the witness.  She was born in 1809,and died 10 Nov. 1879, both in Randolph Co., NC, and was also buried in Graves Family Cem.  Richard lived all his life in Randolph Co., NC.  This family was listed in the 1860 census for Randolph Co., NC.  This Richard was often misidentified as Richard, the son of Richard and Hannah Fincher Graves, who married Agnes Graves, according to R‑50.

Leonard’s son Richard has repeatedly been misidentified as the son of Richard and Hannah Fincher Graves and the two men mistakenly combined into one.
