He had three marriages/partners. His first wife was Clarissa Hicks, who he married on 25 FEB 1864 in Pleasant Grove, Indiana USA. Their two known children were John Hamilton (1865-1944) and Eliza Emma Marie (1867-1944).

His second wife was Clara Jane Ealey, who he married on 25 JUL 1883 in Clay County IN. Their four known children were Rhoda Belle (1870-1955), Albert Sherman (1872-1952), Jesse Rutherford (1876-1954) and Ora (1881-1958).

His third wife is not known. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. They had no known children.

Note 1

John Gibbons II enlisted in the Civil War on September 5, 1861. He served Company H, 31st Regiment of the Indiana Infantry. He saw extensive action through the South and was twice wounded - April 6, 1862, during the Battle of Pittsburgh (also called Shiloh), Tennessee, he received a shot in the arm. On October 1, 1864, he was promoted to Corporal. He was discharged December 8, 1865 at Victoria, Texas. He married Clara Hicks while on furlough from the war.
